Longtime teacher Roberta Bliss, an English Language Arts educator with nearly 18 years of experience, paints a vivid picture of the difficulties she and her colleagues face. "It's the nonstop talking, the climbing on tables, and the constant disruptions," she explains. Bliss has reached her limit, citing the stress and lack of support as overwhelming.
But here's where it gets controversial: another teacher, requesting anonymity, points to a lack of parental involvement as a significant contributor to the issue. "We need the support of parents; it's a community effort," they emphasize. Bliss's resignation from Kingsville ISD this week highlights the severity of the situation.
And this is the part most people miss: several educators, speaking anonymously to KRIS 6 News, want the district to take action. They call for more resources, clearer classroom rules, and better academic support for both staff and students. "The lack of confidence and accountability is allowing these behaviors to persist," one teacher asserts.
A recent Texas Education Agency task force report supports these concerns, revealing that between 60 and 77 percent of teachers statewide feel burned out due to student behavior, learning gaps, and a lack of support.
